As the pioneer to launch Microbial Petroleum Survey Services in China, AE&E has successfully conducted nearly 100 MGCE projects for China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), China Geological Survey Bureau, other domestic private and international oil companies, as well as companies outside China. MGCE technology and 4G Exploration model have been applied in varying terrains (deserts, mountains, permafrost, loess plateau, developed areas, shallow and deep marine) and for different exploration targets (structural, stratigraphic, tight gas, shale gas, hydrates). Post MGCE drilling results in 72+ wells prove the effectiveness of the technique with a success rate of 83% in predicting dry wells ('well buster') and 84% for discoveries ('well booster'). China Offshore Oil Daily has published journal and commentary articles on “First Application of Microbial technology in domestic deep-water exploration” on May 9, 2012 to recognize the important contribution of MGCE services in South China Sea oil exploration.

In 2013, AE&E’s presentation on the application of MGCE has been awarded as Top 10 oral presentation of American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) 2013 annual conference in Pittsburgh.

In summary, MGCE has proven to be a fast, highly sensitive, reliable and cost-effective hydrocarbon detection technology. It has wide applications in conventional and unconventional oil and gas exploration in various environmental and geological conditions. Proper integration of micro seepage data and seismic information is essential and can significantly improve the exploration drilling success rates and reduce development costs.
